2017 STEM Summer Camps

Stop Motion Animation Camp – Grades 5-8 (Max # 9)
Learn the concepts behind film/video animation and make art come alive as stop-motion animation! With patience and problem solving, students will construct scenes and characters with paper models, clay, or other objects and shoot a short video with them— one picture at a time. At the end of the week, each student will have a set of short movies to be proud of and to share with friends and family.
Location: River Raisin Rooms Cost: $40
Two sessions offered: June 12-13 OR June 14-15, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

LEGO EV3 Robotics Camp – Grades 4-7 (Max # 16)
This camp is designed to teach students more about the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Campers will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 to design, build and program autonomous robots. Monday through Thursday, campers will work to solve challenges. On Friday, campers will take a field trip to local business to learn about careers in STEM and the practical applications of robotics in industry.
Location: Lake Erie Room, Cost: $80
Two sessions offered: June 19-23 OR June 26-30, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Sketchup Camp – Grades 5-8 (Max # 12)
Sketchup is amazing, free computer assisted design (CAD) software. After learning about the various Sketchup tools, students will design and furnish their own tiny house.
Location: PC Lab, Cost: $20 June 26-27, 9:00 a.m.-Noon

Camp Break & Create – Grades 4-8 (Max # 15)
Introduces kids to destruction with a constructive purpose! During this camp, students will take apart technology or interesting items in their every day lives and turn it into something new. Campers can bring in their own take apart items, or we will provide several options for students to work with. Students will work together in groups to brainstorm and create a new invention using the parts from within the previous item. Students will be provided their own safety glasses and set of tools that are theirs to keep!
Location: River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4, Cost: $20
June 27, 28 & 29, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Camp Little Break & Create – Grades 2-3 (Max # 10)
Introduces kids to destruction with a constructive purpose! During this camp, students will take apart technology or interesting items in their every day lives and turn it into something new. Campers can bring in their own take apart items, or we will provide several options for students to work with. Students will work together in groups to brainstorm and create a new invention using the parts from within the previous item. Location: River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4, Cost: $20
July 17-18, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Advanced Robotics Camp – Grades 4-8 (Max # 16)
This camp is designed to take experienced robotics students to the next level. Campers will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 to learn advanced mechanical design and programming skills. They will also have the opportunity to design and build innovative robots to complete tasks and compete in sumo and other robot games. It is preferred that students attending this camp have previous FIRST LEGO League or robotics camp experience.
Location: Lake Erie Room Cost: $80
Two sessions offered: July 10-14 OR July 17-21, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Arduino Camp – Grades 8-12 (Max # 12)
Ever wanted to make and code something - a robot, a drone, an alarm for your door - but didn’t know how to even start? Arduino is the answer! Learn more about how microcontrollers allow anyone to create electronic projects. Students will first learn the basics of electronics, Arduino, and programming through small projects. Then the camp will focus on the process of creating a larger project - from idea to completion - so students go home prepared to create further projects on their own. Campers will be able to keep their Arduino kit at the end of the week. Note: If you already know some C++ or another language, you will use those skills, but the camp is also perfect for those with no programming experience. The class works well for those with or without previous Arduino experience.
Location: Banner Oak Room Cost: $80
August 7-11, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

TETRIX Robotics Camp – Grades 6-8 (Max # 12)
For students who are ready to advance beyond LEGO MINDSTORMS, this camp will feature the LEGO TETRIX building system in order to build larger metal robots. Students will learn design and basic tool skills, then learn to run their robots with the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) control system by programming their own Android App. Campers will work in small teams and also learn about the engineering process and electronics. (Previous attendance at a LEGO MINDSTORMS camp is NOT necessary).
Location: Lake Erie Room Cost: $80
August 14-18, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
