CARdboard Camp – Grades 6-8 (Max # 12)

Date: June 25-28, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM - Noon

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Room #4

Cost: $20

Build a car out of CARdboard!  You and a partner will sketch out your design, then build a scale model prototype out of cardboard.  You will learn a variety of cardboard modeling techniques that will enable you to continue designing and creating all summer long.

LEGO EV3 Robotics Camp – Grades 4-7 (Max # 16)

Date: June 25-29, 2018 (Field Trip on Friday, June 29)

Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 2 & 3

Cost: $80

This camp is designed to teach students more about the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Campers will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 to design, build and program autonomous robots. Monday through Thursday, campers will work to solve challenges. On Friday, campers will take a field trip to a local business to learn about careers in STEM and the practical applications of robotics in industry.

Stop Motion Animation Camp – Grades 5-8 (Max # 9)

Date: July 9-10, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4

Cost: $40

Learn the concepts behind film/video animation and make art come alive as stop-motion animation! With patience and problem solving, students will construct scenes and characters with paper models, clay, or other objects and shoot a short video with them— one picture at a time. At the end of the week, each student will have a set of short movies to be proud of and to share with friends and family.

This camp is designed to take experienced robotics students to the next level. Campers will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 to learn advanced mechanical design and programming skills. They will also have the opportunity to design and build innovative robots to complete tasks and compete in sumo and other robot games. It is preferred that students attending this camp have previous FIRST LEGO League or robotics camp experience.

Intro to Minecraft Camp – Grades 4-5 (Max # 12)

Date: July 9-12, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: MCISD PD Center, PC Lab

Cost: $20

This beginner level Minecraft course will introduce students to digging, building and problem solving. Students will utilize engineering practices to design and build structures. Students will also utilize redstone to power their buildings.

Advanced Robotics Camp – Grades 4-8 (Max # 16)

TETRIX Robotics Camp – Grades 6-8 (Max # 12)

Date: August 6-9, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 2 & 3

Cost: $80

For students who are ready to advance beyond LEGO MINDSTORMS, this camp will feature the LEGO TETRIX building system to build larger metal robots. Students will learn design and basic tool skills, then learn to run their robots with the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) control system by programming their own Android App. Campers will work in small teams and learn about the engineering process and electronics. (Previous attendance at a LEGO MINDSTORMS camp is NOT necessary).
