OPEN GYM NIGHTS
Starting in the fall, when its too cold to play outside, children will have the opportunity to run around and burn some energy, playing with balls, jumping rope, or even ride on a small riding toy. There will also be fun games and music to enjoy. Parents must stay with their child, so be ready to have some fun!

PAUL SWY MEMORIAL
Paul Swy was a life-long supporter and advocate of education in general, and specifically, the Monroe County ISD. He believed so strongly in the mission of the MCISD that he served on the Board of Education for more than 20 years. In 2007, the Swy family began hosting the Paul Swy Memorial Golf Outing where all proceeds benefit MCISD programs and services. This outing is held in September of each year. Check back for information in the summer.
Learn about healthy, affordable food produced locally in sustainable ways. Through these family-friendly activities, you will discover the rich bounty of nutritious food resources available right here in Monroe County. Eat REAL. Eat HEALTHY. Eat LOCAL. This event takes place every fall at St. Mary Organic Farm behind the IHM Motherhouse on Elm Street.
CHRISTMAS IN IDA FESTIVAL AND PARADE
The annual Christmas in Ida parade and festival takes place on the first Saturday in December in Downtown Ida. This event brings families from all over Michigan and Ohio to the area to kick off the holiday season. The Great Start Parent Coalition will have 2 Flurry of Families Festivities shows for parents and children to participate in. A few lucky families will get a chance to be on stage and compete for prizes. The Coalition will also be stationed in the Partners Tent in front of the Ida Fire Department, as well as walking in the parade.
UNITED WAY EASTER EGG HUNT
Every Spring, the United Way of Monroe County hosts the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Munson Park. This a huge community gathering that offers children and families of all ages to hunt Easter eggs and win prizes.
Each spring, many community agencies and businesses meet at the Mall of Monroe to celebrate children. This event is free and appropriate for children and families of all ages thanks to its many community sponsors. Children receive free books, crafts and food. Parents receive parenting tips and creative learning ideas.
BE THEIR HERO FROM AGE ZERO COMMUNITY STARS
In May, the Great Start Collaborative Parent Coalition works closely with the Monroe County Intermediate School District to recognize "Community Stars"- any agency that put families first in its policies and procedures. Perhaps it's a store where a "child-friendly" play area makes shopping more do-able and fun for the whole family. Or an employer who offers some flexibility for parents to take time to attend parent-techer conferences and other school activities. Community Stars are honored during the annual Be Their Hero Summit Dinner. More information will be available in the spring regarding these activities.
