Apollo 50 Challenge – Grades 7-12

Date: July 8-11, 2019

Time: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM - Please bring a sack lunch.

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 2 & 3

Cost: $40

Students will work in teams to land a replica lunar module on a 8- by- 10 foot map of the moons surface using a remote-controlled drone. Teams will utilize a LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robot to explore the lunar surface to complete missions. Previous experience with LEGO Mindsotrm is required.

Beginner Robotics – Grades 4-7

Date: July 15-18, 2019 (Friday, July 19th, Campers will go on a field trip)

Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM - Please being a sack lunch.

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 2 & 3

Cost: $80

This camp is designed to teach students more about the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Campers will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 to design, build and program autonomous robots. Monday through Thursday, campers will work to solve challenges. On Friday, campers will take a field trip to a local business to learn about careers in STEM and the practical applications of robotics in industry.

Math and ... ! - Grades 4-6

Date: July 15 -18, 2019

Time: 8:30 am - 11:30 am

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4

Cost: $40

Campers will discover the mathematics all around them as we explore and have fun with the mathematics in games, animation, cooking, music, and more! Campers will use authentic mathematics tools to explore, create, and model with mathematics. Strategies for becoming more nimble with numbers will also be revealed - you may just amaze your family and friends!

Math and ... ! - Grades 7-9

Date: July 15-18, 2019

Time: 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4

Advanced Robotics Camp – Grades 4-8

Date: July 22-25, 2019

Cost: $80

This camp is designed to take experienced robotics students to the next level. Campers will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 to learn advanced mechanical design and programming skills. They will also have the opportunity to design and build innovative robots to complete tasks and compete in sumo and other robot games.

Stop Motion Animation Camp – Grades 5-8

Date: Session 1 - July 22 & 23

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4

Cost: $40 per session

Learn the concepts behind film/video animation and make art come alive as stop-motion animation! With patience and problem solving, students will construct scenes and characters with paper models, clay, or other objects and shoot a short video with them— one picture at a time. At the end of the week, each student will have a set of short movies to be proud of and to share with friends and family.

 TETRIX Camp – Grades 6-8

Date: July 29 - August 1, 2019

Cost: $80

For students who are ready to advance beyond LEGO MINDSTORMS, this camp will feature the LEGO TETRIX building system to build larger metal robots. Students will learn design and basic tool skills, then learn to run their robots with the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) control system by programming their own Android App. Campers will work in small teams and learn about the engineering process and electronics.

Wild Wind - Grades 5-7

Date: July 29 - August 1, 2019

Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm - Please bring a sack lunch.

Location: MCISD PD Center, River Raisin Rooms 1 & 4

This project based camp is designed to get students engaged in science. Students will examine how the power of wind can be used to charge their MP3 player. Students will design, build, and test model wind turbine blades. Students will also use sensors to measure and record wind speeds.

Engineering for the Environment - Grades 5-7

Date: August 12-15, 2019

Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm - Please bring a sack lunch.

Location: Knabusch Math and Science Center, 6670 Water's Edge Drive, Monroe

Cost: $80

Campers will explore our connection with the environment and how it is being changed or threatened. Together we will work towards designing solutions to problems such as water quality, habitat destruction, and decreasing our ecological footprint. We will work to engineer designs that balance our need for using resources while limiting our environmental impact, such as making solar cookers and learning how to filter water for drinking. If you like to spend time outdoors exploring our natural resources and want to learn how we can protect it, this camp is for you!
