Your role as a Quiz Bowl Coach is very important. Students look to you to provide guidance on playing within the rules, sportsmanship, preparation, teamwork, and practice. You also provide important supervision to students as they compete during the tournament and assist them in arriving to their matches on time.

Your work with your School Coordinator is also important in crafting your in-school competition / team selection, holding practices, and securing transportation. Email is our primary mode of communication with Coaches and other Quiz Bowl personnel. If you are not receiving a periodic email message from the ISD’s Quiz Bowl County Coordinator, please contact Chuck Estep, Educational Consultant at chuck.estep@monroeisd.us to verify if we have your correct email address.

  • Who you are;

  • What role you are assuming (judge, coach, quizmaster)

  • Which school you are working with;

  • Your email address and telephone number.

Judges play key roles in officiating during the Quiz Bowl Tournament.  Judges are either time keepers or score keepers.  They also provide important consultation with the Quiz Master on making decisions regarding play.  Without you, we can’t hold a tournament.

Be sure to access the resources on this website that will help you prepare for your role as a Judge during the tournament.  Your preparation and knowledge of the rules will greatly aid you in having a positive and enjoyable experience.

Your role as a Quiz Master is extremely important during the tournament.  You are the “Master of Ceremonies” for each match.  You will read the questions to students, operate the buzzer system, operate the match timer, and provide ruling on play.  A Quiz Master must be able to read well and speak clearly.  They must also be able to take charge of the match and collaborate with the Judges so that play is conducted efficiently and fairly.  Without you, we cannot have a tournament.
