Coaches Information Only
Your role as a Quiz Bowl Coach to students is very important. Students look to you to provide guidance on playing within the rules, sportsmanship, preparation, teamwork, and practice. You also provide important supervision to the students as they compete during the tournament.
You will also need to work closely with your School Coordinator in crafting your in-school competition, holding practices, and securing transportation. It is important to check your email and use it if you have questions. Email is our primary mode of communication with Coaches and other Quiz Bowl personnel. If you are not receiving a periodic email message from the ISD, please be certain to contact the ISD to verify that we have your correct email address.
School Coordinators Information Only
The School Coordinator's Page will acquaint you with the documents and procedures that will guide you in providing an effective Quiz Bowl experience for your students. The best place to begin is by looking at the Quiz Bowl Rules & The Important Dates Half Sheet links listed below. These will help get you started.
Additionally, the other pages will also be useful in enlisting Coaches, Quiz Masters, & Judges. Take some time to browse through these links as they will also prove helpful to you.
If you are a first-time School Coordinator and would like to meet to discuss questions and receive helpful advice, you can contact Chuck Estep to set up an appointment.
Judges Information Only
Judges play key roles in officiating during the Quiz Bowl Tournament. Judges are either time keepers or score keepers. They also provide important consultation with the Quiz Master on making decisions regarding play.
If you have agreed to officiate, it is extremely important that you secure time from work and arrange your personal schedule to be here on the days of the tournament that you are needed. Without you, we can't hold a tournament.
Communication is vital in organizing Quiz Bowl. Email is our primary method of communication with Officials. If you don't get an occasional message from us, you may need to contact us to verify that we have your correct email address. Please feel free to write Chuck Estep and let us know who you are; which school you are working with; and what your email address and telephone number is so that we may check on your information. Additionally, it is helpful if you put the words, "QUIZ BOWL" in the subject line of your email message.
Click on the "Play" button below to watch the short video about score keeping as a Judge.
Quiz Master Information Only
Your role as a Quiz Master is extremely important during the tournament. You are the "Master of Ceremonies" for each match. You will read the questions to students, operate the buzzer system, operate the match timer, and provide rulings on play. A Quiz Master must be able to read well and speak clearly. They must also be able to take charge of the match and collaborate with the Judges so that play is conducted efficiently and fairly.
If you have been enlisted by your School Coordinator to serve as a Quiz Master, it is important that you have arranged your work and personal schedules to accommodate your attendance at the Monroe County Intermediate School District on the day(s) you are needed for the tournament. Without you, we cannot have a tournament.
